HENDRY TEAM
Over many years we have equipped Australian Institute of sports coaches and their athletes, World Championships Riders, International Teams and many State and District riders. The one thread in common with these individuals is that they have all been great ambassadors of their sport and of Hendry Cycles. The riders we help are friendly sportspeople who are approachable and willing to give advice to junior or entry level enthusiasts. This way, the whole sport benefits from our assistance, not just one individual at the top of their game.
NADINE O’CONNOR
For me the one thing that makes cycling special is the camaraderie that I find when out riding. I’ve been very fortunate to have ridden alongside some great riders, some pro and some so generous to share their knowledge and skill. I love the freedom that cycling allows whether it’s covering long distances at speed, climbing the European mountains or just a slow commute to the beach .. and of course the chat over coffee which always tastes so good after a solid ride.
I’m now enjoying road racing and have a personal goal to make the start line of Australia’s infamous Melbourne to Warrnambool road race next year which will certainly challenge me over the next eight months; however this summer is all about re-building my base and joining a few of the Hendry shop rides to roll around our most scenic coastline!

MITCH GOURLEY
Mitch Gourley is one hell of a good athlete! From competing in World Cup Alpine Ski Racing at the age of 16 as an A.I.S member whilst balancing secondary school study commitments, Mitch has always radiated sporting bravado way beyond his years. At sub 60kg, to travel that fast down a mountain beating much larger athletes is mind boggling. Mitch has the same power on the bike and can often be seen pulling turns as hard as the best riders, and loves riding on the road when his ski racing commitments allow more time for his Cycling.

PERI GRAY
My name is Peri Gray and I am an adventure racer from the Surfcoast. I began adventure racing 1 1/2 yrs ago after needing a change from Triathlons. Once I did one there was no turning back.
I have had a lot of great experiences and top 3 results since I started and seen some amazing places being able to travel with it. Being asked to represent the Aussie team at the Australasian Multisport Championships in NZ would have to be one of my highlights.
I hope to get into some longer Expedition style racing over the next year or two and hopefully travel some more and see what the other amazing countries have to offer. It’s a fantastic sport with great people and I have totally been transformed into an adventure racing adrenalin junkie!!!!

PAUL NYKO
Some of my best cycling moments were when I first started as a midget cyclist on the velodrome. As a kid rolling out onto the track to my allocated handicap, tightening up my toe straps and then being launched at the start of a race by usually a 100kg man was nothing more than pure excitement with adrenaline. I was lucky enough to train and race in my child years with five time Olympian Shane Kelly. I traveled to countless Opens and Championships with his brothers and Dad, who taught me many invaluable lessons. I will never forget my first lesson Old Col taught me with match sprinting, we were going at pace when Col forced me to the top part of the track on his hip and kept me there for a lap rubbing my knuckles on the wire.’Yes you soon learn to handle your bike’. I`ve been lucky enough to have ridden in many events / championships including, kerien racing, Individual & team pursuits, scratch races, sprint derby’s, rollar derby’s, time trials and countless Road, Criterium Races. A memorable event for me was when I raced at Mount Gambier Velodrome in the Madison. I was paired with a South Aust juniour Champ and competed against Dean Woods and Glen Clarke. Yes, a podium finish and also the worst cramp I can recall while on the fence ready to be slung into finishing laps. In recent years i have competed in state open racing again and also won state Masters Championships in the process of fun and fitness. As my wisdom expands, i participate in the more serene riding challenges; rides to and from cafes with good friends are some of my favourites ! I was stoked to have finished the Alpine Classic Challenge last year in 7 hours – yes 200km and 4000 meters of climbing!

Paul Nyko wins another one!
GARY WEARMOUTH
My best memory of racing, British National Points Series MTB. 2001
My brother and I were part of an Italian based team that year. This was the first race of the season on a mostly flat but technical flowing course through forest, Huge Bomb holes featured in there for good measure. A large field of quality racers took the start and if you didn’t get yourself up there in the beginning your chances of keeping with the front runners was slim.
I remember clearly how much pain that I put myself through to stay with the pace and in the tough techy bits I felt good. I could feel excitement and adrenaline when I realised I was planning my last lap attack for the finish line. The last half lap and attacks were being made, my god the pain to get back there was unreal but somehow I had made it… here it was coming up ahead, the last tricky bomb hole which was as deep as double level house at least. we all nailed the bomb hole cleanly then headed like crazy for the finish, this was it I had to go with an almighty sprint, trying to get all the power down and stay on for the tight left. Like a dream I got past two other riders in full sprint and made it first to the corner (photo at this point) Get on and keep it going I thought… I’ve made it! Crossing the line with a clear few bike lengths and the commentator saying ‘my’ name as the winner, was more than enough to raise a big well earned smile from me I tell you.

BRIAN & JEREMY FITZWILLIAM
We started riding rail trails casually a few years ago. Jeremy thought this was great, BUT maybe we need a bit more excitement.
Tackled the You Yangs and discovered we loved it so much we tried our luck at a few races. It didn’t take long for us to realise that we needed to be fitter, so along came a pair of Trek road bikes. We now ride rail trails on Gry Fisher bike, single track and the road and have ridden in many beautiful locations in this country!
Cycling is an activity that the whole family can enjoy and keep fit. We have met and made many new friends in all these circles of cycling.

PAUL KINGSTON

Paul Kingston – ‘BC Bike Race’ British Columbia
How it started -Late 80′s – The mtb evolved and i bought a bike and it became my chosen mode of Ski Bum transport whist living in St Anton Austria. Coming home i decided this would be a fanatastic sport in the Otways on all the old motorbike Trails, and have been an avid Mountainbiker since those early times. My most memorable moments & events in MTB are definitely the 2011 BC Bike Race in Canada and being in the Team pits at the Sydney 2000 Olympics watching our riders perform. Terrain variety, event goals and my fave rides in the Otways is what still gets me up early in the winter mornings! Seeing the evolution of the sport and the new bike technology is an amazing thing to witness as well.
ANDREW HUTCHESON
I started out riding a Giant xtc mountainbikes in Victoria during the late 90′s and thrashed this Giant bike. I rode club, state and national series races as often as i could. After this i branched out to racing crits and open road races. I was amazed at how the road kilometres really helped my MTB riding. As with most riders, i started out in lower grades and have progressed to an A grade level in MTB and road.Through my interest in coaching, i became a level 1 Cycle Coach and personal trainer. With this skill set i have coached and written programs for road and MTB riders, as well as conducted ergo sessions and cycling based Gym work. I have completed the Melbourne to Warnambool 3 times, won Vic Masters road championships, club championships and Northern 3 day tour.I love the Baw Baw classic and the Otway odyssey. Overall, i just love to ride!
